DELTA is implementing a major upgrade to its coax network in the province of Zeeland. A software upgrade will enable internet speeds up to 2 Gbps download and 300 Mbps upload. This doubles the current maximum download speed, while upload speeds will increase by up to 2.4 times. All existing customers using DELTA’s coax network in Zeeland will benefit and receive a free speed upgrade for both download and upload, depending on their subscription.

Starting today, DELTA is launching a pilot of the new speeds in the Oostburg area. Customers there will be able to experience download speeds of up to 2 Gbps for approximately two weeks. Insights from this period will be used to optimize the broader rollout.

The upgrade is expected to be rolled out gradually starting at the end of April. Customers will automatically receive a personal notification in the coming weeks explaining what this improvement means for them and when it will take effect. No action is required on their part.

Faster internet for customers

The upgrade significantly increases the capacity of customers’ internet connections. In particular, upload speeds will improve, making it noticeably faster to send large files, photos, and videos. This makes it better suited for intensive use and households with multiple active devices. Depending on the subscription, upload speeds can increase by more than six times.

DELTA is enhancing internet speeds on its existing coax network. This is separate from the fiber-optic network that DELTA has deployed to more than half of households in Zeeland.

Smarter use of the network

The improvement is made possible by a software upgrade to the network, allowing DELTA to use more frequencies on the cable. This enables more data to be transmitted simultaneously by making better use of the available capacity. As a result, higher internet speeds can be delivered without major physical changes to the network.

The coax network in Zeeland is a hybrid fiber-coax (HFC) network, combining fiber-optic infrastructure with coaxial cables for the final connection to homes. This setup makes it possible to deliver high speeds and further improve performance through software upgrades.

Next step in network development

“We continue to improve our network in Zeeland. With this upgrade, we are significantly increasing the capacity of our coax network, ensuring that our customers can rely on high speeds and a stable internet connection for years to come”, said Ludolf Rasterhoff, Chief Commercial Officer at DELTA.

DELTA has long been a frontrunner in high-speed internet. The company was the first provider in the Netherlands to offer 1 Gbps via its coax network, with upload speeds of up to 125 Mbps. With this upgrade, DELTA demonstrates that - alongside fiber - it continues to invest in a state-of-the-art coax network in its home province of Zeeland.
